Informational Text: summaries, reports of information, compare and contrast
Opinion Pieces: short pieces and essays
GENERAL WRITING GUIDELINES
Most writing will occur in the classroom
Narratives should include strong figurative language: strong verbs, similes, metaphors, onomatopoeia, strong grabbers and take away endings, vivid adjectives and adverbs, and a problem/challenge with a solution.
A difference between 4th and 5th writing: stronger vocabulary and complex sentences using much variety.
Informational text and opinion pieces must CITE THE EVIDENCE. Students must support all opinions and ideas with evidence from the article, passage, text they used. AND use words/phrases stating from where the evidence came.
Poetry and other genre will also be written throughout the year.
When possible, students are encouraged to type final draft papers. Students must type it themselves to learn the keyboard.
