CORE WRITING GENRE:
- Narrative: personal, historical, fantasy
- Informational Text: summaries, reports of information, compare and contrast
- Opinion Pieces: short pieces and essays
GENERAL WRITING GUIDELINES
- Most writing will occur in the classroom
- Narratives should include strong figurative language: strong verbs, similes, metaphors, onomatopoeia, strong grabbers and take away endings, vivid adjectives and adverbs, and a problem/challenge with a solution.
- A difference between 4th and 5th writing: stronger vocabulary and complex sentences using much variety.
- Informational text and opinion pieces must CITE THE EVIDENCE. Students must support all opinions and ideas with evidence from the article, passage, text they used. AND use words/phrases stating from where the evidence came.
- Poetry and other genre will also be written throughout the year.
TYPING GUIDELINES
- When possible, students are encouraged to type final draft papers. Students must type it themselves to learn the keyboard.
- Use size 12 font
- Times New Roman
- Double spaced
